Vibration Analysis
Vibration Analysis is one of many of our Predictive and Preventive Maintenance services designed to help our customers save time and money through early detection of mechanical problems. Our highly trained service technicians use Vibration Analysis to identify problems in rotating equipment before these problems create equipment failures.
It has been proven many times over that the vibration signature of an operating machine provides far more information about the inner workings of the machine than any other type of non-destructive test.
Vibration analysis, when properly applied, allows the technician to detect small developing mechanical defects long before they become a threat to the integrity of the machine, and thus provides the necessary lead-time to schedule maintenance to suit the needs of the plant management. In this way, plant management has control over the machines, rather than the other way around.
Vibration measurement and analysis is the cornerstone of Predictive Maintenance, which stands in sharp contrast to the historical "run-to-failure" type of maintenance practice. Numerous studies, such as those conducted by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), have shown that on average, the cost to industry for maintenance will be reduced by more than 50% if a predictive maintenance program is used instead of run-to-failure.
Features
By determining the overall operating condition of rotating equipment, Vibration Analysis can detect:
• unbalance
• misalignment
• looseness
• worn or broken gears
• loose or faulty bearings
This evaluation can determine whether the vibration could be minimized by increasing the mass, reducing the stiffness or adding to the damping characteristics of the vibrating system.
Benefits
Periodic Vibration Analysis can establish performance trends that enable you to better predict the onset of bearing or gear wear. The benefits of this service include:
• Reduction of production losses and unplanned downtime due to problems not identified early enough
• Reduced maintenance and repair costs
• Improved equipment maintainability and reliability
• Increased equipment life
• Increased Mean Time Between Failures
• Professional, comprehensive custom reports
• Increased productivity and profitability
We utilize Azima DLI equipment and Expert ALeter software for analysis and reporting.
